Responsibilities
Outcomes (what “good” looks like)
5-day month-end close with zero unreconciled items over 30 days.
100% on-time commission payouts to agents and rev-share participants with <0.5% error rate.
13-week cash-flow forecast updated weekly; ≤5% variance vs. actuals.

All filings on time: T2 support package ready for the CPA, sales tax returns where applicable, and T4A slips for contractors issued by the last day of February. Government of Canada
Top Responsibilities
Commission, Rev-Share, and Payout Accounting
Reconcile lender remittance statements to deal data; calculate agent splits, caps, bonuses, and revenue-share payouts.
Maintain a clean subsidiary ledger per agent (statements agents can read at a glance).
Track recoveries/chargebacks and clawbacks; accrue where exposure exists.
Month-End Close & Controls
Bank/credit card reconciliations, intercompany eliminations, prepaid/accrual schedules.
Fixed cadence: day 1–2 cash & banks; day 3 accruals; day 4 variance analysis; day 5 management package.
Cash Flow & Working Capital
Build and own a rolling 13-week cash forecast; monitor DSO/DPO; surface red flags early.
Tax & Compliance (Canada, multi-province; U.S. later)
GST/HST: Understand that core mortgage brokering (arranging for a financial service) is exempt; no tax is charged on those services, and ITCs are generally not claimable on costs that relate to exempt supplies. Track taxable revenue streams (e.g., training, desk fees, software recharges) separately and file appropriately. Government of Canada
T4A (Box 020 – Self-employed commissions): Prepare and file for agents/ICs as required; exclude GST/HST from amounts reported. Government of Canada
Records: Maintain transaction/contract files to meet provincial rules (e.g., FSRA 6-year retention in Ontario; align similar standards in other provinces). FSRA Ontario
Monitor BC’s transition to the Mortgage Services Act (MSA) so our processes are ready ahead of October 13, 2026. BCFSA
Open-Book Management Support (GGOB)
Maintain the weekly scoreboard: revenue, gross margin per funded dollar, payroll/commission % of revenue, rev-share accruals, cash conversion cycle, and the BRX Critical Number. greatgame.com
Systems & Process Automation
Keep the GL clean (QBO/Xero). Use AP automation (e.g., Dext/Hubdoc + Plooto/Bill), approvals (ApprovalMax), and light ETL or Google Sheets for commissions. Drive Zapier-style automations where they remove error and time.
Audit-Ready Documentation
Close checklist, desk procedures, approval matrices, payout formula documentation, and versioned calculators.
Qualifications
Core Competencies (BRX-specific)
Commission math at scale: You’ve handled high-volume payables with complex splits, caps, and adjustments.
Revenue-share accounting: Accrual logic, period cutoffs, true-ups, and clear participant statements.
Open-book literacy: You can structure numbers so non-finance teammates can self-manage to the scoreboard. greatgame.com
GST/HST nuance for financial services: You understand exempt vs. taxable streams and the no-ITC reality on exempt activity. Government of Canada
Contractor reporting: Confident with T4A Box 020 mechanics and deadlines. Government of Canada
Multi-entity consolidation: Intercompany flows (OpCo/HoldCo/Trust), allocations, and simple consolidations.
Data hygiene & reconciliation: Relentless about tying lender statements to our deal system and bank.
Hard Requirements
4–7+ years full-cycle bookkeeping in a commission-heavy environment (mortgage/real-estate/insurance/fintech).
Expert in QBO or Xero; advanced Excel/Sheets (INDEX-MATCH/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, error-proofing).
Proven playbook for 5-day close and 13-week cash. · Demonstrated experience issuing T4As to independent agents/contractors. Government of Canada
Comfortable with open-book management rhythms (weekly huddles, scoreboards, Critical Number). greatgame.com
Nice-to-Haves
CPB (Certified Professional Bookkeeper) or CPA-prep courses.
BI exposure (Looker Studio/Power BI) for scoreboards.
Experience across multiple provinces; cross-border/multi-currency a plus.
